RACHEL EVANS
I am a compulsive "maker" driven by experimentation and a love of creating. I have followed my curiosity into many different fields of work and study including environmental work, animal welfare, trades/construction and the film industry. Primarily inspired by nature, my art focuses on biological processes and cultural relationships to the natural world. I employ a variety of media/ methods to re-enchant people with forgotten elements of nature on phenomenological, mythical and personal levels. My present artistic focus is on experimental films, but you can still catch me creating with traditional art materials and gleaning ideas and materials from the forests, beaches and fields.
In 2007 I graduated from the University of Victoria with a major in sculpture and drawing. In 2013 I moved to Calgary Alberta where I began to study animation and analogue filmmaking at Quickdraw Animation Society. In 2015/16 I ran a small independent gallery/performance space in Calgary called The Room Gallery. Currently I live on the unceded land of the Lekwungen, Coast Salish and WSANEC people, commonly known as Victoria, BC.
